Rishikesh & Uttarakhand Caravan Trip — Wake Up Beside the Ganges

Riverside camping without the tent, yoga capital mornings, and Garhwal's meadows a day's drive further. The easiest mountain escape a caravan can make from Delhi.

Yes — you can rent a caravan for Rishikesh and Uttarakhand. My Rolling Homes runs chauffeur-driven RV trips from Delhi NCR at ₹19,900 per day plus taxes. Rishikesh sits just 240 km from our base — a Friday-to-Sunday trip with riverside camping on the Ganges — while longer routes continue into the Garhwal Himalaya: Chopta's meadows, Auli's ski slopes, and Devprayag, where two rivers visibly merge into the Ganges. Best months: March–June and September–November.

The route

From the River to the High Meadows

Uttarakhand rewards flexibility more than any state near Delhi — the best campsite is often one bend of the river past the crowded one. That's precisely what a campervan is for: if the beach at Shivpuri is full, dinner happens ten minutes upstream instead.

Riverside at Shivpuri

The white-water stretch above Rishikesh. Park near the beach, raft in the morning, and swap the tented camp's queue for your own hot shower.

Ganga aarti at Triveni Ghat, the suspension bridges, cafés above the water. Do the town by day and sleep out of earshot of it.

Chopta & Tungnath

"Mini Switzerland" at 2,700 m, base for the hike to the world's highest Shiva temple. Hotels here are basic — your room arrives with you.

Ski slopes with a Nanda Devi backdrop, reached up the Alaknanda valley past Devprayag's river confluence — a spectacular drive in its own right.

Sample itineraries

The Weekend, and the Week

Two ways to do Uttarakhand — pick by how much leave you can steal.

3 Days — The Riverside Weekend (~₹80,000 all-in)

Day 1: Delhi pickup, riverside camp near Shivpuri by evening, dinner under the canopy. Day 2: Rafting or a lazy river day; Ganga aarti in Rishikesh at dusk. Day 3: Slow breakfast by the water, home by Sunday evening.

7 Days — The Garhwal Loop (~₹1,80,000 all-in)

Days 1–2: Delhi → Rishikesh riverside. Days 3–4: Up the Alaknanda past Devprayag and Rudraprayag to Chopta; hike to Tungnath at dawn. Day 5: Auli via Joshimath for the Nanda Devi panorama. Days 6–7: Descend the valley, one last river night, home to Delhi.

When to go

Two Seasons, One Rule: Skip the Monsoon

March – June

Rhododendrons paint Chopta red in March–April; the river is warm enough to swim by May. Delhi's heat makes the escape sweeter — this is prime weekend season.

September – November

Post-monsoon clarity: the sharpest Himalayan views of the year, fierce green valleys, and thin crowds once the Char Dham rush ends. Our pick for the 7-day loop.

July – August (avoid)

Monsoon means landslides on the hill roads and a swollen, unraftable river. If these are your only dates, we'll route you to rain-shadowed Spiti or Ladakh instead.

Caravan vs. camps & hotels

Why a Motorhome Beats Rishikesh's Tented Camps

The riverside, without the compromise

Luxury river camps charge boutique-hotel rates for canvas, shared bathrooms, and fixed menus. The campervan parks on the same riverbank with a real bed, your own hot shower, and a kitchen that cooks what you actually want.

Move when the crowd arrives

Rishikesh weekends get loud. A hotel locks you into the noise; the caravan simply rolls one beach upstream. In the hills, it means skipping Chopta's thin, overbooked lodges entirely.

One vehicle, river to ridge

Doing the river and the high Garhwal by hotel means three properties and three sets of logistics. The RV covers 300 m to 2,700 m of altitude with zero check-ins — and international guests get picked up straight from Delhi airport.

FAQ

Rishikesh & Uttarakhand Trips — Common Questions

Yes. My Rolling Homes runs chauffeur-driven caravan trips from Delhi NCR to Rishikesh and across Uttarakhand at ₹19,900 per day plus taxes. Rishikesh is 240 km from our base — close enough for a weekend — while Chopta, Auli, and the Garhwal high country suit 5 to 8 day trips.
Yes — riverside parking near Rishikesh and Shivpuri is the signature experience of this route. You fall asleep to the river and wake up steps from the water, with your own bathroom and kitchen on board instead of a tented camp's shared facilities.
Very. Leave Friday morning, be parked by the river that evening, raft or laze on Saturday, and be home Sunday night. At 3 days it's around ₹80,000 all-in for up to 4 guests — our most-booked short trip.
Yes. The Explorer regularly climbs to Chopta (2,700 m) and Auli's approach roads. These are proper mountain drives with an experienced chauffeur at the wheel, and both places have thin hotel options — which is exactly when a motorhome shines.
March to June for rhododendron season and warm river days, September to November for crystal post-monsoon views. We avoid July–August: monsoon brings landslides and swollen rivers to Garhwal, and the mountains are better enjoyed after the rain washes the air clean.
