Sample itinerary
8 Days: Kochi → Munnar → Thekkady → Vagamon → Alleppey → Kochi
The classic loop, unhurried. Drives are short in Kerala — rarely over 4 hours — so the days belong to the places, not the road.
1–3
Kochi → Munnar. Fort Kochi's old town, then the climb through waterfalls and spice stalls into tea country. Two nights parked in an estate: tea-factory visit, Eravikulam's mountain goats, sunrise over the gardens.

Munnar → Thekkady. Down through cardamom hills to Periyar. Morning boat safari on the lake, a spice-garden walk, and a Kathakali performance in the evening.

Thekkady → Vagamon. A short, gorgeous drive to the meadows. Pine forest walks and an evening with nobody around — the night guests talk about most.

Vagamon → Alleppey → Kochi. Descend to the backwaters. Day cruise through the canals, seafood by the lake, and a final easy run up the coast to Kochi.

Kerala at its greenest — the monsoon has just rinsed everything. Waterfalls run full on the Munnar road and the crowds haven't arrived yet.
Dec – Jan
Peak season: dry, bright days on the coast and genuinely cool nights in the hills. Munnar can touch 10°C after dark — hot showers on board appreciated.
February
Still excellent, with thinning crowds. By March the coastal humidity builds; June to September is full monsoon — dramatic, but not caravan weather.

October to February — dry, green from the monsoon just past, and pleasantly cool in the hills (Munnar nights drop to 10°C). March onwards gets hot and humid on the coast; June to September is heavy monsoon, spectacular but wet.
Do both — they solve different problems. A houseboat covers one day and one night on the water; the caravan covers the whole state, including the hills a houseboat can never reach. Many guests park lakeside at Alleppey or Kumarakom, take a day cruise, and sleep in their own bed after.
