Yes — you can rent a caravan for Ladakh. The route
Delhi to the Roof of the World, By Road
Most visitors fly to Leh and spend their first two days sick in a hotel room. The road does it properly: up through Manali, into the Atal Tunnel, and over the great passes one by one — acclimatising as you climb, sleeping a little higher each night. It's the difference between arriving in Ladakh and earning it.
Sample itinerary
12 Days: Delhi → Manali → Leh → Nubra → Pangong → Delhi
Built around gradual acclimatisation — never sleeping more than ~600 m higher than the night before once past Manali.
1–2
Delhi → Manali. Free NCR pickup, then north through the plains and into the Kullu Valley. A night among the deodars at 2,000 m.
3–5
Manali → Jispa → Leh. Atal Tunnel, Baralacha La, the Moore Plains, Tanglang La. Overnight halts at Jispa and Pang break the climb into safe steps.
6–7
Leh. Two easy days — monasteries, the old town, momos, rest. Your body finishes acclimatising while the crew restocks water and supplies.
8–9
Khardung La → Nubra Valley. Over the pass and down to Hunder's dunes and Diskit's giant Buddha. A night in the valley where two Silk Road routes once met.
10
Nubra → Pangong Tso via Shyok. The river road to the lake. Evening and sunrise at Pangong with almost no one else around — the single best night of the trip.
11–12
Return over the plateau. Back via Leh and the Manali highway — or extend to 15 days and return through Kargil, Srinagar, and the Mughal Road. Drop-off in Delhi.

A Four-Month Window: June to September
June
The passes open, snow walls still line the road, and the season's first light is extraordinary. Some high routes may open late — we plan around BRO updates.
July – August
Peak season — warmest days, everything open, Ladakh's festivals in swing. Ladakh sits in rain shadow, so monsoon barely touches it. Book by April.
September
Our favourite. Crowds thin, the light turns gold, and the barley harvest colours the valleys. Nights get cold — good thing the caravan has heating and a hot shower.

Beyond Leh, there are no hotels
At Pangong and in Nubra your options are tented camps with shared drop toilets and no heating. The Explorer parks in the same spots with a heated cabin, a real mattress, and a bathroom that works at −5°C.
Acclimatise the smart way
Flying into Leh means going from 200 m to 3,500 m in 90 minutes — the classic recipe for altitude sickness. The road route climbs over five days, and we carry oxygen on board throughout.
Permits, sorted before you land
Pangong and Nubra require inner-line permits, and border-area rules shift season to season. We arrange every permit as part of the price — especially valuable for international travellers, who face extra paperwork.

Yes. The Explorer is built on a 6-wheeled Ashok Leyland chassis with air suspension and is driven by a professional chauffeur experienced on Himalayan roads. It has crossed the Atal Tunnel, Baralacha La, Tanglang La, and Khardung La — you ride, the crew handles the mountain.
That's the whole point. Guesthouse plumbing above Leh is unreliable and often frozen; The Explorer carries India's only working rental-caravan bathroom — hot shower, WC, and wash basin — plus a 15L geyser. A hot shower beside Pangong Tso is something very few travellers ever experience.
June to September. The Manali–Leh route opens fully by June and the passes stay reliable through September. July and August are peak; early September has thinner crowds and golden light. Outside this window, the high passes are snowbound and the route is closed.
The road route is actually the safer way to acclimatise — you ascend gradually over several days instead of flying straight to 11,500 ft. We build acclimatisation halts into every itinerary, carry oxygen on board, and our crew knows the warning signs and the nearest medical posts.
