Manali & Himachal Caravan Trip — Park Among the Deodars

The Kullu Valley, Solang's slopes, and the Atal Tunnel to Lahaul — Himachal is both a destination and the doorway to Spiti and Ladakh. Either way, the caravan is the right way in.

Yes — you can rent a caravan for Manali and Himachal. My Rolling Homes runs chauffeur-driven motorhome trips from Delhi NCR at ₹19,900 per day plus taxes. A 5–6 day round trip covers the Kullu Valley, Solang, and a run through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul; Manali is also where our longer Spiti and Ladakh expeditions turn uphill. Best seasons: March–June and September–November.

The route

One Valley, Four Very Different Days Out

Manali's problem was never things to do — it's that the town books solid every holiday weekend and hotel prices triple. A campervan sidesteps all of it: you day-trip into the bustle and sleep in an orchard or by the Beas, wherever the evening is quietest.

The Kullu Valley

Old Manali's cafés, Hadimba's cedar temple, Naggar Castle, and the Beas running white below the orchards. The valley floor is the trip's home base.

Caravan in the snow near Solang Valley

Solang & Rohtang

Paragliding, ropeways, and snow play at Solang; Rohtang Pass above it on a day permit (we arrange it). Go early — you have a kitchen for the wait.

Guests at the Atal Tunnel entrance in Himachal

Atal Tunnel & Sissu

Nine kilometres under the Pir Panjal and you're in Lahaul — waterfalls, glacial rivers, and a different climate. The single best day trip in Himachal.

Jibhi & the Tirthan Valley

A quieter detour off the Delhi–Manali road: trout streams, forest hamlets, and the Great Himalayan National Park's buffer villages.

Sample itinerary

6 Days: Delhi → Tirthan → Manali → Sissu → Delhi

The valley done properly — with the detour most tours skip and a day on the far side of the tunnel.

1–2
Delhi → Tirthan Valley. Pickup in NCR, overnight halt near Mandi, then the quiet turn-off to Jibhi. A night beside a trout stream instead of a highway hotel.
3–4
Manali & Solang. Old Manali and Hadimba by day; the caravan parked above the crowds by night. Day four is Solang — paragliding, the ropeway, or just the view with coffee from your own kitchen.
5
Atal Tunnel → Sissu. Under the Pir Panjal into Lahaul's stark, dry light. Lunch by the Chandra river, waterfalls across the valley, back through the tunnel by evening.
6
Manali → Delhi. The long roll home — movies on board, meals moving, drop-off at your door.

Approximate cost: 6 days ≈ ₹1,55,000 all-in for up to 4 guests. Details on the pricing page.

When to go

Spring and Autumn Are Manali's Honest Seasons

March – June

Apple blossom in April, snow still low on the slopes, and warm valley afternoons. June is busy — the caravan's ability to sleep outside town is worth the most then.

September – November

Post-monsoon skies, apple harvest in the orchards, and golden deodar light. The valley empties out after the summer rush — our favourite window.

July – August

Monsoon landslides make the Mandi approach unreliable. If you must travel now, we push through the Atal Tunnel to rain-shadowed Spiti — dry while Manali drips.

Caravan vs. hotels

Why an RV Wins in India's Most Overbooked Hill Station

Immune to the price surge

Long weekends triple Manali's hotel rates and sell out the good properties. The caravan's price never moves — and your "room" has a better view than the ₹25,000 suite on Mall Road.

Sleep outside the traffic

Manali town on a June evening is a horn concert. Ten minutes up the Naggar road it's orchards and river sound — the campervan lets you keep the town for daytime and the valley for sleeping.

A dress rehearsal for the big trips

Manali is where the Spiti and Ladakh roads begin. A 6-day Himachal trip is the perfect way to test caravan life before committing to a 12-day expedition — plenty of international guests do exactly that.

FAQ

Manali & Himachal Trips — Common Questions

Yes. My Rolling Homes runs chauffeur-driven caravan trips from Delhi NCR to Manali and across Himachal Pradesh at ₹19,900 per day plus taxes. A Manali round trip works well in 5–6 days; Himachal is also the staging ground for our longer Spiti and Ladakh expeditions.
Around 540 km — we split it into a day and a half with an overnight halt near Sundernagar or Mandi, arriving in the Kullu Valley fresh rather than wrecked. The lounge, beds, and bathroom on board make the long approach genuinely comfortable.
Yes. Solang Valley (13 km from Manali) and the Atal Tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul are both regular runs for The Explorer. Rohtang Pass itself requires day permits that we arrange, subject to NGT rules and season.
March to June for pleasant valley weather and snow still visible up high, and September to November for clear post-monsoon mountain views and apple season in the orchards. July–August brings monsoon landslides on the approach roads — that's when we route trips through the Atal Tunnel to drier Lahaul and Spiti.
Yes — Manali is the gateway. Our Ladakh expeditions go Manali → Atal Tunnel → Jispa → Leh, and Spiti trips go Manali → Kunzum Pass → Kaza. Many guests do Manali as a standalone trip first, then come back for the big expedition.
