India is one of the last great frontiers for overland travel — and renting a caravan here is unlike anywhere else in the world. No cookie-cutter RV parks. No pre-mapped campground circuits. Instead, you get the raw, unscripted freedom of parking your rolling home beside a Himalayan river, in the shadow of a 500-year-old Rajasthani fort, or on a cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea.
But if you’re coming from the US, UK, Europe, or Australia, the caravan rental landscape in India can feel unfamiliar. This guide covers everything you need to know.
How Caravan Rental Works in India
Unlike Western countries where you pick up a campervan and drive it yourself, caravan rentals in India come with a professional driver. This is actually a major advantage — Indian roads are an experience unto themselves, and having a local driver means you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and not worry about navigating chaotic city traffic or mountain switchbacks.
What’s included in the per-day rental (₹19,900/day + taxes):
- The caravan itself (sleeping 2-6 people depending on the model)
- A professional driver AND a helper — both included, no extra charge
- 300 km/day distance allowance, AGGREGATED across your booking (e.g., a 10-day booking = 3,000 km total, spread however you like)
- All permits and road passes
- Onboard amenities: beds, kitchen, toilet, charging points
- 24/7 roadside support
- Strictly no self-drive — your experienced driver handles all Indian roads
What’s extra:
- Fuel — paid by the customer directly at petrol stations
- Excess km beyond your aggregated allowance: ₹50/km
- Taxes (GST)
How Much Does It Cost?
Our per-day rental rate is straightforward:
₹19,900/day + taxes (~$240/night USD)
That includes the caravan, a professional driver, a helper, 300 km/day (aggregated across your booking), and all permits. Fuel is paid by you at petrol stations along the way — this keeps pricing transparent and fair.
The km aggregation policy is worth understanding: on a 10-day booking, you get 3,000 km total. Drive 50 km one day and 450 km the next — it doesn’t matter, as long as the total stays within your allowance. If you go over, excess km is charged at ₹50/km.
Best Destinations for a Caravan Trip in India
Ladakh (June – September)
The ultimate bucket-list caravan destination. Drive through the world’s highest motorable passes, camp beside Pangong Lake, and experience a landscape that looks like another planet.
Best for: Adventure seekers, photographers, couples
Rajasthan (October – March)
Park your caravan in the Thar Desert near Jaisalmer and sleep under a sky with more stars than you’ve ever seen. Drive through the golden city, visit Jodhpur’s blue houses, and explore Udaipur’s lakes.
Best for: Culture lovers, families, first-time India visitors
Spiti Valley (June – September)
Rawer and less touristy than Ladakh. Ancient Buddhist monasteries, fossil-filled valleys, and villages so remote they feel like the edge of the world.
Best for: Off-the-beaten-path travelers, spiritual seekers
Kerala (October – February)
Lush green Western Ghats, tea plantations in Munnar, backwaters of Alleppey, and beaches in Varkala. Kerala offers the most comfortable caravan experience in India.
Best for: Families, nature lovers, food enthusiasts
Why India Is Different (And Better) for Caravan Travel
No caravan parks — and that’s a feature. Instead of pulling into a fenced campground with 50 other RVs, you park in genuinely wild, beautiful spots. A meadow in the Himalayas. A beach in Goa. A desert camp in Rajasthan.
The food situation is incredible. Unlike caravan trips in the West where you’re cooking instant noodles, India has incredible roadside food everywhere. Fresh dhabas serving hot meals for $2-3.
It’s absurdly affordable. A week-long caravan trip in India — with a driver, fuel, and a premium caravan — costs less than renting a basic campervan in New Zealand or Australia.
Safety and Responsible Travel
For international travelers, a caravan with a professional driver is one of the safest ways to explore India’s countryside. Your driver handles all road navigation, knows which routes are safe, and drives only during daylight hours (7 AM – 6 PM). You’re in your own private, lockable vehicle at all times.
We’re committed to Leave No Trace camping — all trash stays in the caravan, we avoid sensitive ecological zones, and our drivers are trained in responsible camping practices.
How to Book
At My Rolling Homes, we keep it simple: per-day caravan rental only. Choose your caravan, pick your dates, and go wherever you want. Your driver and helper are included.
We’re based in Delhi NCR, which means easy pickup after your international flight lands at Delhi Airport.
